The Shelter – Our Emergency Night Shelter
The Shelter offers young homeless people, nine nights of emergency accommodation, and is open 365 days of the year.
What To Expect
Nightsafe’s Emergency Nightshelter offers young homeless people, nine nights of emergency accommodation, and is open 365 days of the year. The Shelter opens daily at 5.00 pm and all young people who come will be welcomed warmly by staff who will show you around the apartment and your bedroom.
All rooms are single occupancy and you will have clean bedding, a fresh towel and toiletries, you will also have a lock on your door for privacy and a sense of security whilst you are sleeping. All residents will be asked to complete a resident form on your first night so you will be asked for some basic information about yourself, this information is used to support you with an individual move on plan to find future housing.
You will have access to the kitchen and lounge until 12.00 pm midnight where you can relax watching a film, play a game, use the laptop, do arts and crafts or cook a meal using food provided. Residents are asked to go to their bedrooms at 12.00 pm or before, to get some rest. Staff get up at 8.30 am and the lounge reopened for use by residents.
We encourage young people to get some breakfast before the day centre staff come up to talk to you about what support is needed and make plans to help with moving on. You can have a bath or shower, use the laundry facilities and chat with staff and other residents until the shelter closes at 10.00 am, or 11.00 am on a Sunday.
Young people usually stay with us for 9 nights and can access day time activities and support from staff and volunteer mentors in the day centre Platform 5.
