On Friday 3rd December 2021 Nightsafe hosted their annual Sleep Out. The purpose of the event is to raise awareness around the issue of young people who are homeless and raise funds to support the vital work Nightsafe do.
When St Michael with St John C of E Primary School, Blackburn, heard about the event they wanted to be part of it and arranged their own sponsored "SLEEP IN FOR NIGHTSAFE" which took place on the same night as the Sleep Out. This involved the children, parents and teachers sleeping in their own homes BUT somewhere other than their own bed!!!
Sandy Sargent, Year 1 / 2 class teacher said "We have supported Nightsafe previously with food and toiletries and wanted to do something different this year. When we saw they were doing a sleep out we were determined to get involved in our own way! We spoke to the children who were so excited to take part in a sponsored sleep in.
On Thursday 2nd December 2021, Jan Larkin, Nightsafe CEO visited the school and spoke to each class about homelessness and why the sleep out is so important. Each class had spent time talking about their sleep in and during the visit they asked her questions. Jan said "I had such a splendid time talking to the children, they were so excited to be involved in their own Sleep In and couldn't wait to tell me where they would be sleeping"
Following the event, Jan was invited back to school to find out how it had gone and receive a cheque for £601:40
Jan said "The kindness and generosity of our community never ceases to amaze me. The enthusiasm of the children to know they are making a difference to the lives of others was incredible. They are definitely Nightsafe Heroes and I look forward to working with them in the future"
Without the help of our supporters, we wouldn't be able to do what we do.
Thank you to all our #NightsafeHeroes.
