In 1990 Nightsafe opened our doors to the first homeless young person and the need for our service is increasing all the time!
Since 1990, Nightsafe has:
- helped 14,500 young people
- given 42,257 nights off the street
- provided 145,000 meals
- had 785 dedicated volunteers
On 3rd December 2021, we will be holding a sleep-out to highlight the plight of homeless young people and raise much needed funds for Nightsafe’s Youth Homelessness Projects.
The event will take place at Saint Silas Parish Church Grounds, Preston New Road, Blackburn, BB2 6PS from 8pm to 6am the following morning.
If you would like to join us and collect sponsorship for Nightsafe, you will need to have warm and waterproof clothing. You will also need a sleeping bag and large cardboard box to make yourself a shelter, newspaper is also good for insulation. In the past people have enjoyed decorating their box so felt tips and sellotape can come in handy. If the weather is forecast to be very wet, we would also advise use of a survival bag available from outdoor shops to keep your sleeping bag dry.
Any youth groups wishing to join the sleep-out must have designated leaders with necessary permissions and consent forms. We ask for a staffing ratio of 1 adult per 4 under 18 year olds. We advise a minimum age of 10 years old and no dogs please.
Individuals wishing to join the event should be 18 or over unless accompanied by a responsible adult.
We provide sponsor forms or you could set up a just giving web page for friends and family to make online donations.
Breakfast will be provided for those joining us, at 6am on Saturday morning. If you wish to join us for breakfast, please let us know on your registration form as well as any dietary requirements.
We hope you enjoy your night and thank you for your support.
Sleep Out Poem
A Cardboard City,
Not here to look pretty,
A night on the street,
No roaring fire to warm our feet,
The sound of plastic rustling in the breeze,
A bright orange shelter, so we don’t freeze.
Generous people bringing food and drink,
A time to count blessings, just to take time & think,
One night sleeping rough,
One night is enough!!
Sleep isn’t coming,
In the distance people running,
But I know I am safe,
The people in yellow I put my faith.
I can literally watch the time ticking on by,
From these paving slabs where I’ve chosen to lie,
One night sleeping rough,
One night is enough!!!
Without the help of our supporters, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do.
Thank you to all our #NightsafeHeroes.
