Dave's Story

Dave appears to be a cheeky and confident young chap. He is currently living in a hostel and comes to Nightsafe Day Centre for food and support.

He has been using drink and drugs to excess, and we have chatted about our concerns and what support is available. With this in mind, Dave started to reduce his drug usage.

Slowly Dave has opened up about his childhood trauma mainly about being abandoned and left to live with his sister. From an early age he got involved with County Lines, transporting and delivering drugs.

Dave is becoming more involved with Nightsafe collecting donations from the Day Centre, redeveloping the back yard area and interacting with creating bird boxes and bug hotels for a nearby woodland area.

Recently Dave went on a ‘bender’ and spent the day in the Day Centre recovering as he did not want to be alone. Dave asked me to speak to staff at his Hostel as he was scared of harming himself when he went back to the Hostel. Nightsafe rang the staff and told Dave that we didn’t want to lose him and asked him to see how he feels tomorrow.

Dave rushed in the day after to tell me that he was still alive, staff had done welfare checks on him during the night and he has a supported GP appointment that day.

Dave attended the appointment, was diagnosed with PTSD, referred to SPARK for drug abuse, put on medication and will get counselling.

Dave is currently in a much better place, and said he could not do it without Nightsafe. We will continue to support him.
